Gene Expression Profiling in the Management of Skin Cancers: Mastering the Basics, Embracing the Innovations

Welcome to Gene Expression Profiling in the Management of Skin Cancers: Mastering the Basics, Embracing the Innovations. Here you can access free CME-accredited learning modules.

Gene expression profiling (GEP) is a powerful approach for viewing the expression of many genes simultaneously in different types of malignant or normal cells. Using computational approaches, differentially expressed genes or informative patterns of expressed genes are mined from large data sets produced by new expression profiling technology. This technology yields the opportunity to classify tumors by gene expression and to locate genes of diagnostic or therapeutic importance.

GEP technology is widely used in many areas of oncology—breast, prostate, and lung cancer—as well as in a variety of skin cancers, including melanoma. Results of GEP testing, along with traditional risk assessment methods, are critical for making personalized diagnostic and therapeutic decisions, as well as for personalized risk assessment.

These modules provide an overview of GEP and how it can be integrated into clinical practice for risk assessment in melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma.

We hope you will make this educational platform your “go to” site for the most up-to-the-minute information about the application of GEP in skin cancer risk assessment, prognosis, and clinical decision-making. It is designed to offer clinical “tools you can use” to help advance the care of patients with skin cancer.

We encourage you to share this educational resource with your colleagues and your health care team.
